Start off by arriving five minutes early each day that way there is an overlap and your employers aren’t waiting on you.

Maintain a nanny diary to keep your employers up to speed on their children’s day, progress and routine.  Also, create a space for them to make notes and respond to anything you’ve written.  Check for their feedback upon arriving at work each morning in case there are important changes in the schedule or activities for the day.

If you have some down time whilst the children are school or asleep, do a little extra tidying if you can see the house needs it.

Be willing to occasionally babysit on the weekends.  There are many nannies that refuse to do so, but you can stand out by extending the offer. 

Put together a nanny first aid kit that you bring to work with you each day.  Be sure to carry it with you whilst you and your charges are outside the home. 

Create a nanny solution notebook that includes all of the important emergency contact information for your charges as well as a description of remedies for common ailments you may encounter with your charges.
