Nanny Salaries and Nanny Pay

Nanny salaries vary depending upon the nanny job itself.  Live-in, live-out and part-time nannies all vary in salary and the hours they are expected to work.  We have put together a guide on industry standards for every type of nanny job out there.  Unlike other careers, nanny salaries are always stated in net values.  It is also important to note that the rates listed below are based on nannies with at least two-years of full-time nanny experience.

Live-out Nanny (Daily Nanny)              £400 - £600+net pay/week

Live-In Nanny (5 days)                       £350-£450 net/week

Overseas Nanny/Governess                £350-£800 net/week

6 days/week or 24- Hour Care            £450-£800 net/week

Temporary Nanny                              £8 - 10 net/hour

Weekend Nanny                                £9- £12 net/hour

Nanny Share                                     £9- £15 net/hour

Maternity Nurse                                 £9- £15 net/hour

Holiday Nanny                                   £9- £15 net/hour

With different types of nanny jobs, come different sets of responsibilities and expectations:

Full-time nannies, often called daily nannies, work 5 days per week - totalling around 50 hours.  Most daily nannies are willing to babysit one or two nights during the week, but this is usually paid in addition to the nanny’s weekly net salary.  Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, especially if you offer your nanny extra perks (i.e. private use of a car, shorter work week, late starts with full salary etc).

Families typically employ live-in nannies for the sake of convenience.  Due to the benefit of not having to travel to work and having free accommodation, a live-in nanny is expected to work longer hours than a daily nanny – about 60 hours per week.  It is also expected of a live-in nanny to do 1-2 nights of babysitting each week.   Unlike a daily nanny, these 1-2 nights of babysitting are not paid in addition to his/her weekly net salary.

After school nannies and weekend nannies are the hardest to come by.  After school nanny jobs also pay more as they require the nanny to work afternoons during the academic year and full-time during the holidays.   This varying schedule hinders the nanny in finding supplemental employment elsewhere.
