Get A Paediatric First Aid Certificate
The London Nanny Agency is the only nanny agency that has made children’s safety its number one priority. For all nannies who find a job through our agency we pay your fees for a paediatric first aid and lifesaver course. Not only is this a great learning experience for our nannies, it reassures our clients that their children are in the best hands possible.
London has a variety of organisations that hold first aid courses, but as a nanny you know that general first aid training is not specific enough for children and babies’ whose bodies and organs are much tinier and more delicate than adults, thereby requiring different methods of treatment. The London Nanny Agency sends its nannies on both a paediatric first aid course as well as a lifesaver course through the Safe & Sound Organisation.
The Safe & Sound Organisation has venues scattered all around London to make travelling to and from your course quick and easy. Each course is 3-hours long and our nannies can opt to take them separately or together on a Saturday. Again, The London Nanny Agency pays a nanny’s fees for these courses if she has been placed in a permanent nanny job through our agency. The better educated you are as a nanny, the more potential employers will take you seriously.

Enhanced Nanny CRB Disclosures - A Must!
We encourage all nannies to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the UK Criminal Records Bureau each year. An Enhanced CRB Disclosure is not the same as a police check – it is much more thorough, the highest level of check. By completing one each year, it shows that you are a serious, professional nanny and care about delivering the best service to your employers.
An Enhanced Disclosure from the UK Criminal Records Bureau checks the following:
- Whether an individual has been banned from working with children in a childcare role. If so, their name appears on the Protection of Children Act’s list.
- Whether an individual has been convicted of any offences.
- Whether an individual appears on what is formerly known as ‘List 99’. It is more recently referred to as Section 142 of the Education Act 2002.
After one year, an Enhanced Disclosure is considered invalid so make sure that you re-apply for a new one each year. Most nanny agencies are able to process an Enhanced CRB Disclosure for you. The Disclosure can be as expensive as £60 if you go through a nanny agency. The processing of an Enhanced Disclosure may take anywhere from six to eight weeks. Getting A Nanny Qualification
London has one of the largest nanny cultures in the world and appropriately offers a wide range of qualification courses. Some of the most serious and well respected nanny qualification courses are listed below:
Diploma in Childcare & Education (NNEB)
BTEC in Child Studies/Nursery Nursing
CACHE Certificate in Childcare & Education
GNVQ Level 2 or above in Early Years Childcare & Education
Advanced Diploma in Childcare & Education (equivalent to a Master’s Degree)
Diploma from The Norland Nanny College
The Princess Christian College (no longer in operation)
The Chiltern College
Montessori Teaching & Childcare Diploma
Please Note: Although The Princess Christian College are no longer in operation, The London Nanny Agency still recognises the diploma as a valid qualification.
*There are also foreign course equivalents that are equally as thorough and informative.
Nanny Training - Short Courses
There is no better city in the world to further your nanny career than London. London boasts some of the best nanny training courses around.
If you are new to the UK and are looking to get your nanny career off the ground, The London Nanny Agency recommends enlisting in MNT Training's CACHE Unit 1 ICP (Introduction to Childcare Practice) course. This course is held 1-2 times per month over a 2-day period, typically Friday and Saturday.
MNT Training's CACHE Unit 1 ICP Course covers the following:
- Good Practice in Child Protection
- Good Health and Safety Practice
- Food Hygiene
- Provisions for Suitable Child Activities
- Equal Opportunities
If a nanny completes this course, along with a Paediatric First Aid course, he/she can request an interview with SureStart in order to become SureStart Approved, making him/her significantly more employable.
